about us

Traditionally the Andean region has provided the world with excellent food and medicinal plants. ECOANDINO has been founded to further this tradition by organically cultivating and processing Andean plants, preserving their nutritive and medicinal properties while giving highly competitive prices. At the same time, ECOANDINO aims to contribute towards the development of an agro-industry of functional foods where there is direct participation of the population cultivating the plants, preserving biodiversity with its organic production system, and promoting an improvement in living standards of the farming population.

Initially the company concentrated on the organic cultivation and processing of maca, for the production of pure maca products in various forms, and of foods and drinks which employ maca as their main ingredient. Our organic maca crops and processing plant are situated on the Junin high plateau at 4,100 metres above sea level, an area where maca has been cultivated by man since pre-Inca times. The dry climate and high altitude of Junin allow us to process and preserve our products in optimum conditions, in accordance with international norms of quality control. Since 2002 our maca products have all carried an organic certification from SKAL International.

Currently, ECOANDINO is cultivating and processing other excellent Andean plants, such as yacon (Smallanthus sonchifolius) that is cultivated and processed in Oxapampa, a high Amazonian region in Central Peru, with Skal organic certificate. Yacon roots and leaf products are anti-diabetic and have other important properties for ameliorating digestive problems. ECOANDINO is also processing wild medicinal Andean plants like cat´s claw (Uncaria tomentosa), muña (Minththostachys mollis), manayupa (Desmodium mollicum) and others.
